Children's fancy dress fair 'keeps tradition alive' 19th May 2008

The annual Medieval Fair in Sedgefield, County Durham was a great success this year, as many enjoyed the chance to dress up, reports the Northern Echo.
According to the newspaper, both adults and children turned up at the grounds of Ceddesfield Hall in knight costumes, Morris dancer outfits and other period clothing
To start the day off a horse-drawn carriage carried eight-year-old Georgia Peacock - dressed in a flower queen fairy dress - and her four attendants to the celebrations.
"Many of us are in costume because we like to keep the traditional alive and it was nice that some of the first visitors who arrived were dressed up as well," said Maxine Robinson, publicity officer for Sedgefield Community Association, which organised the fair.
The children's fancy dress competition was won by six-year-old Tom Hearman who dressed up as a giraffe. Second place was taken by twins dressed as an Olympic rowing crew, third by a knight and fourth by a maid.
Apart from the success of its Medieval Fair, Sedgefield is perhaps best known for its racecourse, which hosts 19 fixtures throughout the year.
