Alsager Carnival was "fantastic" 25th Jun 2008

Aimee Standring and Emily Steer won the children's fancy dress prize at Saturday's Alsager Carnival.
Reported by the Congleton Guardian, this year's event was circus-themed and clowns flooded the streets of Alsager.
Carnival royal Jennifer Hargreaves sat in a princess dress in a vintage Rolls Royce, eventually being crowned by Alsager Round Table chairman Paul King.
Jennifer's mother Alison recently told the newspaper that her daughter has had a "tough" year after a number of family deaths, but that her "sunny, smiley, nature" made her an excellent choice for carnival queen.
Other activities included a best float competition, brass bands, a world oatcake-throwing championship and a dog show.
"Considering the weather the turnout was fantastic and I would like to thank everyone who took part and supported the event," said organiser Richard Sutton.
"Local people want to support the carnival and it was a lovely day, with a genuine community atmosphere."
