Musical themed Dorchester Carnival 'a great success' 25th Jun 2008
Little Mermaid fancy dress, Lion King outfits and a Shrek get-up were just some of the sights at this year's Dorchester Carnival.
The events organisers claimed that a record-breaking 56 floats entered in the parade this time round, all under the theme It's A Musical World, reported the Dorset Echo.
Carnival queen Shelley Walton and her attendants Kylie Willsher and Carla MacQueen led the procession, all wearing their fairytale dresses.
"Everyone has been really friendly and lovely and it is great to see so many people get into the spirit and get involved," said Shelley.
Town crier Alistair Chisholm told the newspaper that the carnival went "marvellously well" and that Dorchester residents had really exceeded his expectations this year.
"Just when you think the folks of Dorchester can't do any better - they go and do even better," he remarked.
Last year's carnival's theme was the four seasons, with children dressed up as hula girls, snowmen and even wind turbines.
